Rape, Burglary And Vandalism: Newton Police Logs

Also: Other incidents that Newton police responded to over the weekend.

NEWTON, MA — In the past week there has been one report of a rape, according to police data. This is the only rape reported so far this year.

Here's a sample of the other types of calls the Newton Police Department respond to each day from the Newton Police logs, crime chart and sometimes police scanner radio, which are public. Arrests do not imply conviction. And just because someone reports a crime does not mean it happened that way.

Thursday, Jan. 18

Porch Pirates: An Atwood Ave resident called police to report that several packages were stolen from her home after they were delivered.

Vandals: Someone called police to report vandalism at the A.Z Property Management establishment on Watertown Street.

Larceny: Someone called from Life Time Athletic on Boylston to report something stolen. Then someone called to report a stolen item on Walnut Hill Road.

Rape: Someone reported a rape to police at 3:51 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 19

Shoplifter: Someone at Wegmans reported a shoplifter at 11:59 a.m.

Unwanted: Police responded to a report of an unwanted person in the commuter rail lot in Auburndale at 11 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 20

Shoplifter: Comcast on Needham Street called police to report a shoplifter at 3:57 p.m.

Break in: Police responded to a report of a break in on Centre Street at 9:23 p.m.

Loud: Someone complained about a loud party on Watertown Street just before midnight.

Sunday, Jan. 21

Car vandal: And officer was dispatched to Derby St for past vandalism to a vehicle...stated that about an hour ago he heard a bang outside of his house, in the area of the driveway. ... an hour later he realized that
one of his tail lights had been damaged.

Assault: Someone called police at 9:14 a.m. to report an assault on Circuit Avenue.

Monday, Jan. 22

Graffiti: Police officers responded to a report of graffiti at the Newtonville post office on Washington St. Someone reported postal trucks had been defaced by graffiti. stated that sometime between 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 and 7:30 a.m. today, eight postal trucks had been tagged with graffiti. The trucks were parked along
Washington St eastbound in front of the post office when they were tagged. The side of the
trucks which was tagged was facing the highway.

Stolen Puffy Jacket: Someone at Bloomingdale's at the Chestnut Hill Mall reported that a man and a woman shoplifted. At 1:50 p.m. police were on the lookout for a man with a puffy coat, according to the police radio.

Thin ice: Police got a call about a man walking on the ice on Crystal Lake.

Car break: At 7:10 p.m. someone reported a car was broken into while it was parked at the Fessenden School on Waltham Street.
