Route 9 Closed In Newton, Traffic Nightmare Persists

NEWTON, MA — Downed wires were causing heavy delays on both directions on Route 9, with the westbound side closed completely and just one eastbound lane opened. The wires were down near Elliot Street, where the lights were out. WZB reports the lanes the lanes have been reopened.

The Newton Fire Department was asking motorists to find other routes.

That might be easier said than done. At least seven cars crashed on the Mass Pike in Newton this morning, creating a traffic nightmare that is continuing on Newton's other main highway.
