Spate of Car Break-Ins: Newton Police Logs

At least a dozen cars were broken into during the past week.

NEWTON, MA — Here's a sample of the types of calls the Newton Police Department respond to each day from the Newton Police logs, which are public. Arrests do not imply conviction.

Thursday, January 11

Rash of break ins: Police responded to 10 reports of cars broken into, at least six while parked near the Boston Sports Club at 135 Wells Avenue and another three near 88 Wells Ave. It's not clear what time of day this happened or if police have a description of any person or persons involved in the crime. Patch is requesting more info.

Warrant Arrest: Police arrested Philip A Robinson, 58, of Wyaman Street on a default warrant for harassing electronic communications.

Apple Shoplifting: Police responded to the Apple Store for a report that a man, came into the shop on Jan. 7, around 2:40 p.m., started to look at different items in the store, before he took a DJI Mavic Pro Alpine White Drone. Employees showed video to police of the event and described the man as white, approximately 5 foot 10, 175 pounds wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, a blue plaid colored shirt, black boots or shoes and was wearing eye glasses with a black frame. The store employees told police they didn't know who he was but also described him as having black hair with grey edges and appears to be in his late 40's or early 50's.

Drunk Driving on the sidewalk: Police arrested Gregory Michael Lyons, 60, of Princeton Street near Cabot St and Eastside Parkway, for driving drunk and having an open container in his beige Kia Soul. Police were called to the area originally for a report someone driving erratically and even driving up on the sidewalk.

Friday, Jan. 12

Warrant Arrest: Police arrested Nicole Williams Gerkiale, 24, of Boston on a warrant for threatening to commit a crime.

Larceny: Someone at Waban Health & Rehab on Kinmonth reported something stolen.

Car gone: Someone called to report their car might be stolen from Walker Street.

Lock your car: Someone called to report their car was broken into while it was parked near the Boston Sports Club on Wells Ave.

Saturday, Jan. 13

Gas station break in: Police responded with multiple units to the Speedway Gas Station at 2370 Commonwealth Ave for a report of a break in happening right then. When an officer got there he saw the back door off of Auburn Street was smashed and the lock was broken. The ATM appeared out of place, it appeared as though it had been unplugged, moved to the side, and had a door to the cash box opened.However it does not appear that access to the cash box was gained. An employee was able to pull up the video surveillance footage. "At around 12:44 a.m. you can see a vehicle pull up to the back doors. At 12:55 a.m. suspects make entry though the rear door and immediately go for the ATM." Two of the people wore masks, gloves, hats, all black clothing and what appear to be boots. The other person wore a green coat, gray hat, gloves, mask, black pants.

Shoplifter: Someone reported a larceny at the Container Store on Boylston Street at 12:22 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 14

Porch pirates: A Parmenter Road resident called at 7:57 p.m. to report a package theft.
Break in: A Coolidge Road resident called at 7:27 p.m. to report they thought someone broke into their home.

Monday, Jan. 15 (MLK Day)

Break in: Someone on Beacon Street reported a break in at 2:30 p.m.

Car break: Right after that someone on Warren Street reported their car was broken into while it was parked there.

Threats: Someone reported feeling threatened at the Concord Street Apartments

Tuesday, Jan. 16

Break ins: A Beacon Street resident reported someone broke into their home on the 1300 block Beacon St., someone else reported a building was broken into on Hawthorn Street, too. Police also recieve d a call from someone at Bridge Insurance on Langley Road reporting a break in.

Stolen: Someone else reported something was stolen from The Towers of Chestnut Hill on Hammond Pond Parkway.

Car break ins: Two people reported their cars were broken into while parked in the YMCA lot on Church Street.
