Trash Collection Takes A Hit In Newton Due To Blizzard
The city's snow emergency and parking ban will be lifted by Tuesday evening as public schools were closed for a second straight day.
NEWTON, MA — A major blizzard hit Massachusetts on Monday, and many communities in are dealing with well over one foot of snow.
Parts of Middlesex County received more than 16 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Arlington took precautions ahead of the storm, including closing schools and non-essential town offices on Monday.
Public schools remained closed on Tuesday for a second straight day. According to Mayor Marc Laredo, the city-wide snow emergency and parking ban is slated to end at 5 p.m., which will also allow any evening activities at public schools to take place.

Trash collection is now delayed by two days, except those who have it collected on Friday as they will have to wait an entire extra week.
"People living on the Friday route can put their trash out next Friday, March 6, in white, brown or any other plastic trash bags or in barrels. If possible, please put this extra trash on Friday morning rather than leaving it out overnight," Laredo said. "We can't have a two-day delay for Friday’s route because federal Department of Transportation regulations do not allow for our service provider, Waste Management, to operate on Sunday and then resume regular collections on Monday.
