Two Teens Allegedly Jump A Guy On Langley Rd: Newton Police Logs

And a man accused of tossing a lighter into another guy's car - while driving, and more.

NEWTON, MA — We've been away for a bit but here's a look at the types of crime Newton Police responded to between April 25 and May 9. Newton police respond to dozens of calls each day but here are a few of the highlights brought to you by the Newton Police logs and arrest reports.

April 25

Car break in: On Gatehouse Road.

Happened a while back: Someone reported that on April 16 while they were in a store at 199 Boylston Street someone broke into their car and took two items.

Crash leads to Arrest: Someone called to report a Honda Odyssey had crashed into a telephone pole on Washington Street at 10: 45 p.m. The pole was ok, the front end of the car, which was up on the sidewalk had minor damage to the front bumper. Police arrested Dario Yaranga, 53, of Brighton who they found unsteady on his feet and bracing himself against a nearby fence for balance. They charged Yaranga for OUI 2nd offense, marked lane violation and driving on a revoked licence.


When you gotta go, but maybe pick a better place: Someone called to report a man parked his Red Jeep Cherokee near Pershing Road, got out and peed. He then reportedly got some clothes from the Jeep, walked up the road and took a left. Police said he was described as a heavy set man around 30 years old wearing a white T-shirt. The road is right across from Franklin School, where kids were being picked up from after school programs, according to the caller.

April 27

Arrest on Warrant: Juliet Kalule Fitzgerald,54, of Waltham had an active default warrant out of Waltham district court for motor vehicle offenses

Pansies: A Mill Street resident called to report stolen pansies. She told the officer that Sunday April 22 she had placed a small planter of yellow pansies on the sidewalk across from her house, where they stayed for about a week until she noticed someone had taken them between 5 p.m. 6 p.m. today.


April 29
Smashed: A Fisher Road resident called to report her car window was smashed overnight while it was parked in her driveway.

May 1

Stolen bike: Someone called police to report that someone stole his Blue Schwinn Mountain Bike was taken from the Austin Street Star Market. He said he didn't lock it.

May 3

Car break in: A Cherry Street resident called to report that two cars in his driveway were broken into overnight.

May 7

Stolen car: Someone reported their car was stolen from Emerald Street.

May 8

Stolen purse: Someone reported that while she was shopping at Wegmans someone with a foreign accent asked her to read a list of ingredients to him responded to 200 Boylston St Wegmans for a past larceny... shopping for groceries when a she was done he said thank you and walked away. When she got to the checkout she realized her purse, which she had in her cart, was gone.

Warrant arrests: Police arrested Cheryl A Cloutier, 51, on two active warrants out of Waltham.

May 9

Road rage takes a twist: Someone came into the station to report an incident that happened on Comm Ave near the Marriott Hotel a couple days earlier. The man told police a red Toyota Rav4 came up fast from behind him while he was driving and attempted to pass the man on the right before the lanes merge. It was at this time, that the man in the red Rav4 threw a red cigarette lighter into the other car's passenger side window, hitting the driver in that car's leg. The man reporting it to police followed the Rav4 and got a licence plate. Police are now looking to summons a 34-year-old man from Waltham on assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

Fight turns to arrest: Someone reported a fight on Langley Road near Langley Path. When police arrived someone was injured and on the ground with a facial injury. He had trouble talking and said his tooth was loose and hurt. The person said that he just got off of the bus on Langley Rd when someone approached him and told him to give them his backpack. The person told police he refused and the two the two teens started to punch him, even after he fell to the ground. Once other people started to show up, the two teen assailants left the area on Langley Rd, according to police. Somehow, police came across one of the teens alledged to have committed the crime, although that part was redacted in the report sent to Patch, and arrested a 17 year old boy from Newton. He is being charged with: unarmed assault with intent to rob and assault and battery. Police are requesting a summons from Waltham Juvenile Curt against another 17-year-old from Needham to charge him with the same.
