Newton firefighters had to extricate the man's passenger from the car. The driver reportedly had a run-in with Brookline Police earlier.

NEWTON, MA —Last night at around 1:40 a.m. a car crashed into a home on Route 9 in Newton, seriously injuring both the driver and the passenger.
State police arrested the driver, Julio Savedra Alonzo, 23, of Waltham for driving drunk among other charges.
A preliminary investigation by State Troopers show that the Waltham man was traveling in the area of 475 Boylston Street West (Route 9) in Newton in a 2004 Toyota Matrix, when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle causing it to crash into a utility pole and a house, said police.

Earlier in the morning Alonzo is alleged to have driven through a detail site at a high rate of speed in Brookline and failed to stop for the detail officer when signaled to do so, so he was charged with failing to stop, too.
Alonzo was booked at the State Police Barracks in Boston and will be arraigned in Newton District Court Thursday. State Police were assisted on scene by Brookline Police.
Police said they had no other information available at this time.
