What To Know This Week In Newton

Good morning and welcome to a new week. Here's what you should know.

NEWTON, MA — Good morning and welcome to a new week, one in which the Patriots are Super Bowl Champions again. There should be a parade happening in Boston this week, so stay tuned for more on that. As you commute to work or wonder what's happening around town, here are a few things to know as the week gets into gear.

  • Weather: Monday watch for a Sunny day with a high near 53 in the Garden City and if that's not warm enough for you this week, the National Weather Service predicts Tuesday will be warmer near 60, even. But Wednesday it's slated to head back down to a high of 39 before we see more freezing rain Thursday and the temps go low again.
  • Local Government: At the Newton City Council meeting Monday night, the council is set to refer a discussion about the Washington Street Vision Plan’s Impact on Transportation with the Principle Group and city representatives from Planning & Development, Transportation Planning, and Transportation Operations regarding the “Hello Washington Street” vision for transportation on the corridor, specifically in regards to multi-modal mobility and the prospect of reducing lanes from four to three.
  • Happening at the Library:
    • Lunar New Year: Come celebrate the Year of the Pig by listening to stories and participating in a fun craft! For children ages 3-8 and their caregivers.
    • Valentine's Day Votive Candle Workshop: Learn how to use a Silhouette Cameo craft cutter to create heart-shaped decals for a Valentine's-themed votive candle holder. This program is for adults.
  • Sports: Newton South have a few games this week;
    • Newton South Varsity Boys Basketball at Concord-Carlile
    • and Girls Varsity host Concord-Carlisle at 5:30 p.m.
    • Varsity Girls Hockey hosts Weymouth 4 p.m. Wednesday
    • Newton North Girls Varsity Basketball is playing Weymouth High at North at 6:30 p.m.
    • and Boys Varsity is heading to Weymouth for a game at 6:45 p.m.
