What's Your Vision For Washington Street In Newton?

The Newtonville Council is hoping residents will weigh in by taking their survey.

NEWTON, MA — It's been a topic of discussion for years, and plans have been in the works at Newton City Hall, but what's your vision of Washington Street? The Newtonville Area Council is asking folks to take an public opinion survey so they can figure out the preferences of actual Newton residents about the potential development along Washington Street from West Newton to Newton Corner.

Take the survey online until Saturday, June 30, at www.newtonville.org. So far, some 1,400 people have responded.

All Newton residents, ages 16 and older, are welcome to participate. The idea is that the council will analyze the survey results and provide them to the Mayor, Planning Department, and City Council, and to the public at a future NAC meeting.

This is independent of those of the City’s contractor, the Principle Group, according to the council and should take about 15 minutes. One question asks folks to weigh in about what kind of public benefits they would want the developer to agree - from setting money aside for schools to noise abatement to bicycle lanes. Another question asks if you would support the construction of a 5-story building next to a 2-story home.
