⢠Northampton approves bell-to-bell cell phone ban for students (westernmassnews.com) ā If you have a student in Northampton Public Schools, be ready for a strict bell-to-bell cell phone ban starting the first day of next school year. The school committee approved a policy requiring phones be completely inaccessible during the school day, with details on storage and access to learning apps to be worked out over the summer.

⢠Northampton's green infrastructure agency saves $269K, sets sights on carbon neutrality (gazettenet.com) ā Northamptonās climate action department has already saved the city about $270,000 in energy costs and is now rolling out major upgrades to school buildings, vehicle fleets, and downtown infrastructure to hit carbon-neutral goals. Expect work this summer at Leeds, Jackson Street, JFK, Ryan Road, and Northampton High, plus a growing electric vehicle fleet and long-term decisions about aging municipal buildings.

⢠A āwin' for children: Senate approves child welfare overhaul championed by Comerford (recorder.com) ā Northamptonās state senator Jo Comerford has steered a major child welfare overhaul through the Massachusetts Senate, including a new Foster Children Bill of Rights. Northampton-based Clinical & Support Options and other western Mass providers say the bill will shift families away from court involvement and toward community-based support, expanding the role of Family Resource Centers and strengthening the independent oversight of the Office of the Child Advocate.
