Hazmat Team Called To Four-Alarm North Andover Fire

Fire fighters expected to be on the scene overnight Monday, and a Hazmat team is monitoring air quality in the North Andover neighborhood.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Fire fighters expected to be on the scene of a four-alarm fire in North Andover overnight Monday. The fire at the TBI Recycling center on Holt Road was reported around 6:45 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing thick clouds of smoke and flames shooting out of the facility, which recycles construction materials.

As of 9 p.m., no injuries had been reported. A hazardous materials response team had been called to the site as a precaution and to monitor air quality in the neighborhood. Ambulances from Lowell General Hospital were on standby at the scene. A portion of Route 125 in North Andover was also closed.

National Grid cut power to the building earlier in the evening. The utility was called back later on in the evening to cut power to the surrounding neighborhood.
