Athlete of the Week: Eric Riedel
Junior track athlete hopes to make a giant leap into the record books.
Eric Riedel said he never intended to be so involved in track, but after early successes, the junior athlete has made a name for himself. Riedel, who also plays soccer, said track was originally a way to stay in shape for the soccer season.
But, after being subbed in the triple jump event at a JV meet his freshmen year, Riedel found he had a natural talent towards the sport. Riedel's brother also excelled in the triple jump, something the junior athlete said got him initially involved.
Today, Riedel is a junior for the NAHS Boys Track team and has become an elite player with good speed and the ability to jump high. Last week at the , Riedel scored first prize and a personal best at the triple jump. Riedel hopes to score high this Saturday at the in Bridgewater.

Head Coach Steve Nugent says Riedel has even more potential at scoring high in other events including the 400 meter hurdles. This year, Riedel was slowed down by an injury, but Nugent hopes to see Riedel score even more big points in other events next season.
