Basketball Knights Split Battles with Masco

The boys won and the girls lost against the Cheiftans yesterday.

Boys Basketball

led all scorers with 22 points as the Scarlet Knights won their season opener 66-44 over the Cheiftans of Masconomet.

Isaiah Nelsen added 18 points of his own. Nelsen and Karalis combined for seven three-pointers on the night.

The Knights played a stifling second quarter. They outscored the Cheiftans 16-5 in the second frame to give North Andover a 37-20 advantage at halftime. That allowed the Knights to cruise to a win after outscoring Masco by five points in the second half.

North Andover (1-0) plays Salem in the Greater Lawrence Christmas Tournament on Friday afternoon at 4:15pm.

Girls Basketball

After a deep playoff run last year, the girls team is 0-2 to begin the 2011-12 campaign.

Masco beat North Andover 49-43 to hand the Knights their second straight loss. had another strong outing scoring 15 points. Pam Coufos added 10, but the Knights simply could not take control of this one.

They were faced with a 28-21 halftime deficit, and though it was close, the Cheiftans remained in control for the rest of the game.

North Andover plays Pinkerton on Thursday at 3:30pm in the Lawrence Christmas Tournament.
