Bruins Made History -- Time to Celebrate

The Boston Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 in Vancouver Wednesday night to claim the Stanley Cup for Boston.

Last night, the Boston Bruins won their first Stanley Cup since 1972. Although they were unable to skate the cup around on home ice, fans across New England felt as though they were part of the celebration as they watched their favorite players grab the cup and take it for a skate.

It was the game that Boston Bruins fans wanted to see. From the opening face-off, Boston was the more aggressive team, they finished their checks, they came out of the corners with loose pucks and they scored early and often. Many experts said it would be whichever team scored first that would come away with the cup and last night, they were right.

With six minutes left in the first period, Petrice Bergeron scored his first goal of the night, sending Boston Bruins fans across the state over the coffee table. Then, about halfway through the second period, Brad Marchand stuffed a goal home to open the lead to 2-0. Both players would score again, Bergeron on a break-away and Marchand on an empty-netter to seal the victory.

Once again, Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas had an amazing game between the pipes and his counter-part, Roberto Luongo, simply didn't. The Bruins are expected to arrive back in Boston, cup in tow, this morning.

According to ESPN, "the city and team will work out the details of a victory parade on Thursday. Early word is it could be either Friday or Saturday." With the number of people expected to swamp Boston that day, don't be surprised if the team opts to do a rolling rally, using the city's famous duck boats.
