Familiar Face to Serve as Next Thomson School Principal

Lorena Marx will replace Principal Gregg Gilligan.

A former faculty member will return to the school as its new principal.

Lorene Marx, who left North Andover to serve as principal of the Edward G. Molin Upper Elementary School in Newburyport, will leave that school at the end of June and return to Thomson to replace current Principal Gregg Gilligan on July 1.

Gilligan has been appointed to take over as assistant superintendent after Superintendent Chris Hottel steps down in June and current Assistant Superintendent Kevin Hutchinson takes his place.

Marx's move comes just a year after she left Thomson School for Newburyport. While at Thomson before that, Marx spent two years at Thomson as an evaluation team Leader, professional development coordinator and support services coordinator.

"Though Ms. Marx was here for only two years, she soon acquired a reputation as a strong instructional leader who was greatly respected by faculty, staff, parents and students," Hottel wrote in a statement announcing Marx's return. "Her expertise in special education and complex disabilities had made her an invaluable resource in modifying curriculum and developing programs to meet the needs of all students."
