Former Town Manager Andrew Maylor Named Merrimack College VP
Maylor spent one year as the Massachusetts comptroller after years as North Andover's town manager, including during the gas crisis.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Massachusetts Comptroller Andrew Maylor was named vice president and chief business officer of Merrimack College, Tuesday. Maylor was appointed state comptroller a year ago, after spending seven years as North Andover's town manager. Maylor was a key player in leading the local recovery effort following the deadly Sept. 2018 gas explosions in North Andover, Andover and Lawrence.
Maylor was named comptroller in Feb. 2019, and is set to join Merrimack College on Feb. 24. During Maylor's time with North Andover, the town earned a AAA bond rating, implemented a capital improvement plan and built up its reserves.
Maylor said his year with the commonwealth was a "fantastic learning experience" after his 25 years in local government, but the college's offer was too good an opportunity to pass up.

"We can't schedule opportunities to fit neatly into time frames, sometimes they just present themselves," Maylor said "This is just one of those times."
Maylor added that the comptroller's staff was fantastic, as were people in the governor's office and legislature that he worked with.

"We got a lot accomplished," Maylor said. "But given the opportunity that presented itself, it wasn't a complicated decision for me."
Merrimack College is a private Augustinian Catholic college in North Andover. It has grown sharply over the last decade, from less than 2,000 students in 2009 to over 4,500 now. Maylor will report to Jeffrey Doggett, the College’s executive vice president and chief financial officer.
“Merrimack College has become a town in and of itself, as well as an important member of our host communities of North Andover and Andover," Doggett said in a statement. "To have Andrew’s background and experience join the leadership team will be invaluable as the College continues to grow and meet the needs of our diverse community.”
“As a parent of two Merrimack alums, and as a current adjunct faculty member myself, I have seen firsthand what the leadership has successfully done to grow the school and build on its prestige,"Maylor said. "As Town Manager, I have seen from a different vantage point what the growth of the College has meant, and been impressed with the level of sophistication and strategic thinking the leadership brings to the table. I am excited to join the Merrimack team at this moment in the College’s history.”
