Internet Safety and Social Media

Tuesday, October 28th 7:00-9:00pm North Andover Middle School Auditorium

A night for parents and community members to learn more about the issues facing our students when they enter the online world and how to navigate this digital world in a respectful and responsible manner. Important topics including personal safety, privacy settings, legal implications related to bullying and criminal harassment, and an individual’s digital footprint will be discussed. Other topics will include school policies regarding technology and internet controls, staff intervention, peer reporting and discipline. The program is intended for families with children in grades 4 to 10.

The keynote speaker is Officer James Donovan of the Saugus Police Dept., who specializes in this subject matter. He is currently working with the North Andover Middle School and NAPD to develop an array of internet safety and social media topics for the middle school and elementary schools to be implemented during the 2014-15 school year. A brief overview of these topics will be explained during the presentation. Other participants on the panel will include representatives from the North Andover Middle School, High School and elementary schools, plus representatives from the NAPD, North Andover Youth Center and the NAPS Technology Dept.

Resources will be available to take home. The event is free of charge and open to the public. No registration required. For more information, please contact the North Andover Parent Resource Network at najointspeaker.com.
