Lawrence Police Clarify 'Curfew' Instituted Following Deadly Night Of Violence
It's not as much a curfew as a reinforcement of a city ordinance, police clarified Tuesday afternoon.

LAWRENCE, MA — Police have clarified what they earlier called a curfew in Lawrence, just a day after two shootings resulted in one man dead and three others hurt.
What Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick has earlier in the day called "a strict public curfew on all public property, including parks, at sundown," was clarified in an afternoon press conference. Police are now calling it the reinforcement of a city ordinance that states individuals not allowed to congregate near public parks and city-owned buildings after sundown unless they have a permit. People in violation of the ordinance could be arrested, police said.
Residents will still be allowed outside after dark, police said in the press conference.

Fitzpatrick in a Tuesday morning release encouraged residents to call if they see anyone out after dark in public areas.
A unidentified 25-year-old Lawrence man was killed in Monday night's shootings has not been identified. He was found in a car that had crashed, suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest, police said.

The other gunshot victims - one 18-year-old man from Lawrence and two from 35-year-old men Lowell - were shot minutes earlier in Howard Playstead. Two of the men suffered serious injuries.
The shootings are suspected to be unrelated. Police said they believe the shootings were targeted.
No arrests have been reported as of Tuesday afternoon.
