Merrimack Women’s Crew Unveils Inaugural Schedule

The following was submitted by Brad Davis of Merrimack College.

Head Coach Tim Desrosiers announced the first-ever fall women’s crew schedule, which kicks off on October 2.

“This fall will be our foundation,” said Desrosiers. “I plan to set up an atmosphere of professionalism and a culture of doing the right things the right way. I want to welcome our recruits and walk-ons into an environment that will support the student-athlete, so that they can in turn put the required energy and effort into the team.”

In the first season of crew at Merrimack, the Warriors will compete in their first-ever event at the Textile River Regatta at UMass Lowell on October 2.

They will then race in the New Hampshire Championships at Pembroke, New Hampshire on October 16 and at the Head of Fish at Saratoga, New York on October 29.

“We’ve got a terrific group of ladies lined up for the fall. We haven’t rowed a single stroke yet as a team, but a lot of individual effort and hard work has already gone into making this fall a success. There is an energy here that is different than anything else I have been a part of. Our team knows they have the opportunity to be a part of something special, and they are very excited.”

Merrimack will train at the Abe Bashara Boathouse in Lawrence, a facility situated on the Merrimack River and operated by Greater Lawrence Community Boating, Inc.

Along with women’s golf, women’s crew was added as an intercollegiate sport at Merrimack for 2011-12, pushing the total of intercollegiate sports offered to twenty-two. In just two years, Merrimack has increased its number of sports from 16 to 22, after adding men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track in 2010-11.
