MA Hiker Suffers Injury After Mt. Washington Fall

A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he fell while hiking at Mt. Washington, according to New Hampshire officials.

SARGENT'S PURCHASE, NH — A Massachusetts man was injured in a hiking accident at Mount Washington on Wednesday, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Michael Harvey, 64, of Methuen, was hiking alone with his dog on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail in Sargent’s Purchase, NH.

While descending from the summit of Mt. Washington, Harvey stepped on an unstable rock, causing him to lose his footing and fall, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after that, another hiker came upon Harvey and called 911 for assistance.

The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) and Conservation officers responded. An AMC rescuer responded and administered medical aid to Harvey.

Conservation officers reached Harvey by accessing the Sherburne Ski Trail by ATV and then hiking up to his location. They then assisted Harvey back to the ATV with the aid of crutches and rescuers.

Harvey was then driven down to the Pinkham Notch AMC Visitor Center parking lot.

Once at the bottom, rescuers did an additional assessment and determined Harvey did not need medical transport from Pinkham Notch. Harvey planned to transport himself to the hospital.
