Mistral presents "Paris Between the Wars" music from Paris in the 1920's and 1930's at 3pm on Sunday, November 9th at West Parish Church!
Musical effervescence from the 1920's and 1930's in Paris, a hotbed of artistic activity where composers flocked from around the world!

Mistral, with artistic director Julie Scolnik, continues its 18th season on Sunday, November 9, at 3:00 pm in Andover with PARIS BETWEEN THE WARS (& Beyond). From Stravinsky’s beloved musical fable, The Soldier’s Tale to Gershwin’s jazzy Three Preludes and the coquettish and oh-so-French Poulenc and Françaix, the concert culminates in a brilliant sextet by a composer of today, Guillaume Connesson, who catapults the French spirit into the 21st century!
Mistral favorite clarinetist Todd Palmer, returns to play the part of the devil in Histoire du Soldat, which follows the adventures of the soldier as he trades his violin, a symbol of his art, for a book which supposedly holds the key to wealth and success- selling his soul to the devil!
Other Mistral members performing on this concert will be the ever-astonishing pianist Randall Hodgkinson, violinist Sarita Kwok, violist Stephanie Fong, flutist Julie Scolnik, and BSO cellist Mickey Katz.

MISTRAL has been bringing “unstuffy, unpredictable, and unmatched” concerts with internationally renowned musicians to the Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston since 1997. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Julie Scolnik, Mistral performances are always a little eccentric, stubbornly personal, impassioned, and committed to invigorating old traditions with an ever-youthful perspective. The Mistral 2014-15 concert season is funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
