North Andover Man Swerved Into Oncoming Traffic, Charged With OUI

A man was charged with OUI and other crimes after he was reported driving dangerously in Reading, according to police.

READING, MA — A North Andover man was arrested on allegations of OUI after reports that his car swerved into oncoming traffic Saturday in Reading, according to police.

Police received reports that a gray Volvo hatchback was seen swerving into the oncoming traffic lane on Main Street (Rt. 28) in the area of Forest Glen Road. The Volvo also ran a red light and remained stopped at a green light.

Police conducted a traffic stop. Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle. The driver was arrested after he failed sobriety tests, according to police.

The driver, a 20-year-old North Andover man, was charged with OUI, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, and expired inspection sticker violation. He was held pending arraignment in Woburn District Court.

"The Reading Police Department takes roadway safety very seriously, and we will continue to aggressively patrol our streets and respond to any and all reports of suspicious or erratic motorists," Reading Police Chief David Clark said in a statement. "I would also like to thank the members of the public who reported this incident and helped get a dangerous driver off the road. We encourage our community that if they see something, say something, and this is what happened in this situation."
