North Andover Resident Honored by Celtics

Cathy Lee recently received recognition as a 2010-11 Boston Celtics Hero Among Us for saving one of her students from choking.

On August 1st, North Andover’s Cathy Lee was recognized as a Boston Celtics Hero Among Us during a State House ceremony.

Celtics legends Bob Cousy, Tom “Satch” Sanders, Massachusetts State Tresurer Seven Grossman, and Celtics Managing Partner and Governer Wyc Grousbeck were all on hand to congratulate Cathy and the other 2010-11 award recipients.

Cathy was also recognized during the Celtics’ April 13th game against New York.

Lee, a fifth grade teacher, was recognized for a heroic moment last march. During her math class, a student of hers began choking on a strawberry. Cathy performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to dislodge the strawberry from the student’s throat.

The Heroes Among Us award was established by the Celtics thirteen years ago. The achievements that it recognizes include individual acts of courage, sacrificing for others, overcoming obstacles to achieve goals, saving lives, and making a lifelong commitment to enhancing the lives of others. Over 600 individuals have been honored since the program’s inception.
