North Andover Moves Trick-Or-Treating To Saturday

Meanwhile, the Methuen Police Chief says it's a miracle noone was injured when a tree fell on top of a house.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- North Andover postponed Tuesday's trick-or-treating to Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 as clean up continues from a wind storm that has left almost the entire town without power. The town also announced late Monday it was increasing hours at Cyr Recycle Center on Sharpners Pond Road to help residents remove yard wate from the storm. The center will be open will be open Monday through Friday 8 am to 3 pm from now until December 9th with the exception of November 23rd and 24th.

National Grid is reporting that 33 high-tension transmission lines that run through the Merrimack Valley were knocked down in the storm, which is why North Andover and many surrounding communities were hit so hard by the storm. The work to repair the transmission wires is estimated to take 72 hours.

Almost all of North Andover woke to no power service Monday morning. National Grid was reporting that 12,368 of its 12,560 customers in North Andover were without power. The utility said it was assessing conditions but said it could take several days for service to be restored.

Meanwhile, Methuen Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon said it was a "godsend" that no one was injured when a tree crashed through the back of a house on Longwood Road.

North Andover Public Schools were closed today and Merrimack College canceled all classes before noon. Downed lines should be reported immediately to National Grid and to the North Andover Police at (978) 683-3168.
