Obituary: Joel M. Lanxner, Contributed to Development of Radar for the Military During WW II
Retired from IBM after a 25 year career during which he helped develop the IBM 3090 mainframe

Joel Michael Lanxner of North Andover, Massachusetts, died early Saturday, September 27 at the age of 94. He was born October 4, 1919 in Mount Vernon, NY. Mr. Lanxner, lived in Poughkeepsie, NY for 45 years before moving to Massachusetts. He was pre-deceased by Stephanie Lanxner, his wife of 50 years.
Mr. Lanxner is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His survivors include Katherine Guarino of Pasadena, CA, formerly of Brookfield, CT, her children Jessica Ward and Laura Youngfleisch; Deborah Lewis and her husband Phil of Salisbury Mills, NY, their children Dianna Snediker and Carol Passaro; and Teresa Ivester and her husband John of Topsfield, MA, and their children John and Kevin Ivester
Mr. Lanxner retired from IBM after a 25 year career during which he helped develop the IBM 3090 mainframe. He retired in 1985, just after its introduction. An electrical engineer, he contributed to the development and advancement of radar for the military during World War II.
He was an avid golfer, sailor, tennis and bridge player, and a member of the IBM Country Club.
Funeral services will be held at Annisquam Village Church, Gloucester, MA at 1 p.m. Friday, October 3.
