Obituary: Madonna Marie (Der) Macedonia, Served Over 20 Years as a Red Cross Volunteer at Military Hospitals

Married Dr. Raymond Macedonia, a career Army officer, they traveled the world and raised four sons

Madonna Marie (Der) Macedonia, 78, a resident of North Andover, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 at home surrounded by members of her family.
Madonna was born in Ohio and raised in Bridgeville, PA. She was the daughter of Mary and Walter Der. She was the graduate of the University of the State of New York. In 1956, she married Dr. Raymond Macedonia, a career Army officer. Together they traveled the world and raised four sons. Madonna was a generous and loving person who served over two decades as a Red Cross volunteer at military hospitals where the family was posted. Three of her sons are career military officers and combat veterans.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Madonna is survived by her husband, Dr. Raymond Macedonia, her four sons and their wives; Dr. Michael R. Macedonia and his wife Terri of Orlando, FL; John R. Macedonia of North Andover; David R. Macedonia and his wife Elaine of Madison, AL; Dr. Christian R Macedonia and his wife Jane of Lancaster, PA. She is also survived by her brother Walter Der of Versailles, KY; her brother-in-laws, Robert Macedonia and his wife Luanne of Pittsburgh, PA, and Richard Macedonia of Potomac, MD; her sister-in-law Patria Amurgis and her husband Victor of New Port Richey, FL, and eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her brother Rev. Justin Der predeceased her.
The family would like to thank the team from the Merrimack Valley Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care given to Madonna. Also the family expressed its deepest thanks to the medical staff at Lawrence General Hospital.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday November 13, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 14,2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery and then a luncheon at the church hall.
