Suspect In Custody In Lawrence New Year's Eve Shooting

LAWRENCE, MA — A suspect turned himself in to New York City Police, in connection with the New Year's Eve shooting death in Lawrence. Luis Polanco, 25, turned himself in Tuesday and was arraigned on a fugitive from justice charge, the Essex District Attorney announced. The Essex DA's Office was notified Thursday that Polanco had waived rendition.

Wilson Javier, 35, of Salem, N.H. was killed at around 11:49 p.m. on Dec. 31, Lawrence police said. Police received a call about gunshots on Summer Street and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead soon after arrival at Lawrence General Hospital.

Mr. Polanco is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Essex DA's Office, the Essex State Police Detective Unit and Lawrence Police are investigating.
