The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer raised $2.7 million during fiscal year 2013. The Foundation’s main benefactor is Vera Bradley, Inc., which contributes approximately $1 million each year to the cause. Additional support comes from events and individual donations. Vera Bradley co-founders began raising funds for a cure after the loss of a dear friend to the disease in 1993. Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed $20 million to the research being conducted at the Indiana University (IU) Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This team is world-renown for its collaborative approach to research-- leading national clinical trials and hosting the world’s only healthy breast tissue bank. This unique resource offers researchers an invaluable tool in unlocking the mysteries of the disease. In addition, IU Cancer Center has been recognized by the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and the National Cancer Institute for groundbreaking discoveries.
