Too-Dark Window Tint Leads To Gun, Drug Charges In Methuen: Police

METHUEN, MA — A trooper stopped a car for having illegally tinted windows, which led to the arrest of a man on gun and drug charges, according to state police.

"In Massachusetts, car window tint must allow at least 35 percent of light through," state police tweeted. "A driver in Methuen didn't know that - or didn't care - and got stopped by one of our Troop A patrols. His bad day got worse when we found a gun and drugs in the car."

The trooper was patrolling Route 110 in Methuen when he saw an Infiniti sedan with "an illegal level of window tint."

The trooper followed the car onto Route 495. The car sped up to 80 mph in a 55-mph zone. The trooper then pulled over the vehicle in the breakdown lane.

The trooper saw the driver "make several strange horizontal movements," according to a state police statement. The trooper searched the car and found a 9mm Glock pistol the driver was not licensed to own. The trooper also found THC and marijuana products along with electronic scales packaging commonly used for selling drugs.

Camron Arthur, 19, of Lawrence, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without a firearm ID card, possession of a class C drug with intent to distribute, possession of a class D drug with intent to distribute, illegal window tint, and speeding.

He was held in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and was later arraigned in Lawrence District Court.
