Ray Bourque Says He Will Stand With Striking Stop & Shop Workers

Boston Bruins legend Ray Bourque crossed a picket line and shopped at the North Andover Stop & Shop amid a worker strike.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Former Bruins start Ray Bourque posted an apology on social media after video emerged showing him cross a picket line at a Stop & Shop in North Andover Monday. In his apology, Bourque — who lives in Boxford — blamed the anti-union slight on a medical condition. In a follow-up post on Twitter, he said he would stand with union workers on the picket line after his medical condition is resolved.

Bourque didn't specify what his medical condition was. On social media, people have speculated that he is preparing for a colonoscopy, based on the items that can be seen in his bag. The video also shows Bourque being jeered by onlookers who yell, "Shame on you."

Stop & Shop workers have been on strike since Thursday after contract negotiations broke down.
