The golf marathon allows each participant to choose a charity to support, with all funds raised by each golfer going directly to that organization.
Golf Fights Cancer was founded in 2003 by Jay Monahan and Brian Oates after the death of their friend and colleague Rob Stevens. The organization has granted $16.5 million to more than 92 cancer-related charities, according to the foundation.
The Joe Andruzzi Foundation was founded in 2008 by former New England Patriots offensive guard Joe Andruzzi and his wife, Jen. Andruzzi’s NFL career ended after he was diagnosed in 2007 with non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt’s lymphoma. After becoming disease-free less than a year later, the couple launched the foundation to help cancer patients and families facing financial distress.
