It may have been the last CMass Conference meet of the season for Algonquin, but it certainly was their best. Yesterday, at Ski Ward, both the boys and the girls were victorious amongst their CMass conference rivals.
The boys turned in impressive races to beat p0werhouse St. John's, Wachusett, Westboro, Shrewsbury and Nipmuc.
Colin Proctor led the way for finishing first over-all in acombined time of 60.95. Jeff Rossi also snuck into the top 10 over-all just edging out Jon Green from St. John's for ninth place.

"We have agreat bunch of kids," said Algonquin Head Coach Wayne Hey. "They are very energetic, they listen, and try harder and harder at each race."
Proctor, who was second after the first race, had a phenomenal second run to top the leaderboard with his combined results. "It was a tough course and there were alot of dq's today." he said. "I feel pretty good right now heading into the State Championships."

On the girls' side, ARHS captain Kelsey McGowen skiied her way to her highest finish of the season. She was second after the first run and second overall. The senior had already punched her ticket to the state meet at Berkshire East on March 2, but was still nervous about yesterday's race.
"I was nervous before my first run, but I'm happy with the outcome, " she said. "I was in second place, and that was my highest finish in the standings so far this season. The team is doing really well. We are first in the league standings, and we have the potential to send three or four skiers to the state meet."
Also placing in the top ten for Algonquin were Linnea Henningson who finished third, and Hannah Cassidy securing her spot at the state meet in tenth place.
The Tomahawks will participate in a "fun run" next Thursday at Ward Hill, and then it will be back to business as they travel to the state meet on March 2.
