Algonquin's Postseason: Lacrosse, Tennis Teams Hang On

The Tomahawks are well-represented in the Central Mass. playoffs.

It’s been a strong showing early on in the postseason for many of the Algonquin Regional sports teams.

In softball, the sixth-seeded Tomahawks dug themselves a five-run hole early on and couldn’t recover, falling to No. 11 seed Doherty 6-3 on Friday in the first round of the Central Mass. Division 1 Tournament in Northborough.

Trailing 5-0 after three and a half innings, Algonquin tried to make a comeback, closing to within 5-3 but could never get over the hump.

The Tomahawks finish the season with a 12-9 record.

The Algonquin boys’ lacrosse team kept its season alive with a 6-4 win over eighth-seeded Nashoba Regional on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Central Mass. Division 2 Tournament.  With the win, the top-seeded Tomahawks improve to 17-4 and advance to the semifinals where it will battle fourth-seeded Grafton on Wednesday night at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

On the girls’ side, the Tomahawks lacrosse team also advanced to the semifinals with a 12-6 win over sixth-seeded Shrewsbury on Saturday. Waiting for the third-seeded Tomahawks (17-4) will be second-seeded Groton-Dunstable in the Central Mass. Division 2 Semifinals on Tuesday night at Foley Stadium.

The boys’ tennis team notched a 5-0 win over South High Community on Friday. The sixth-seeded Tomahawks (12-5) will travel to third-seeded Doherty on Monday afternoon in the Central Mass. Division 1 Quarterfinals.

The girls’ tennis team will be in action on Monday in the Central Mass. Division 1 Quarterfinals against visiting tenth-seeded Milford. The 15-1 Tomahawks earned a first round bye and will host the Scarlet Hawks on Monday.
