Athlete of the Week: Danielle Hayes
Algonquin junior knocks it with the field hockey team in the fall, and rugby in the spring.

A junior at Algonquin Regional High School, Danielle Hayes is presently on the field hockey team, but switches over to rugby — which started during her freshman year – in the spring.
Her coach, Dan Welty, said "The team has been on a 8-game unbeaten streak since she has started at rightback. She had two key defensive plays on against Marlborough to prevent goal scoring opportunities."
Favorite Career Athletic Moment: Making the team this fall was definitely
a big moment. I've been playing for a few years and when I made varsity
this year, I was really excited and anxious to start playing with everyone
else. Plus, we made it to playoffs and I hope we do as well as they did
last year!
Stats: We are now 13-2-2 and Welty's first field hockey team to have won 13 games in regular season.
Future goals: Short term, I hope to help the team go as far as we can in
playoffs this year because the team deserves it. I also hope that I, along
with the rest of the team, become the best players we can be. That was
Welty's goal for us at the beginning of the season and I definitely keep
that in mind with every game that comes our way.
College: I probably should start looking at schools but I haven't exactly
gotten to it yet. I'm just beginning to look into it now and I'm not sure
if I'll end up playing, but as of right now, it's up in the air.
Next Up: Last Friday was our last regular season game away at North
Middlesex. It's sad knowing regular season's over but I know we're
all really excited for what's coming next.
On your Ipod?: I've definitely got some Taylor Swift on there. Haha. Who doesn't? But also Rihanna and Maroon 5, plus, Andy Grammer, who
I found a little while ago and I hope he becomes big!
Outside of School: Every summer at the Cape, I sail, which I've also been
doing for many years and have come to really enjoy.
