B&E on South Street on Wednesday

Residents on South Street returned home on Wednesday around 5 p.m. to find that their home had been broken into.

Northborough police found that an intruder had gotten into the house through the back door somewhere between 1:30 and 5 p.m. that afternoon. Police say a friend of the homeowner's son, who possibly has mental health issues, is believed to have committed the burglary.

No items were taken from the home, and it is still under investigation.
