Candidate Candor: Lisa Maselli, Running for Board of Selectmen

Lisa Maselli is no stranger to serving on boards.

A native of Southborough, Lisa Maselli graduated from Algonquin Regional High School and has owned property in Southborough, Westborough, Northborough ... and even Chandler, AZ. She moved to Northborough in the late '90s to be close to her father's home, and to care for him in his later years.

She is the CEO of Design Integrity, which is known for inventing the New England Weather Coin, and she's also the owner and operator of Marlana Studios.

And her history politically speaking is quite long, as well.

"My first board service started in the mid 1980s when my daughter was attending Mary Finn School K-3," she said, "and I noticed that her once excited learning experience was starting to change. I became an executive board member of the Mary Finn Elementary School and worked with parents and teachers to investigate new programs for K-3 and created new revenue streams for some of their programs. While in that process, I designed the Town of Southboro board game, sold advertising space to the businesses and Fay School, presented the board games to the schools for sales to build up their budget for playground equipment. With the help of 2 friends, we raised over $10,000 in less than three months."

Maselli also participated in the American Field Service Intercultural Exchange Program, has volunteered with the PanMass Challenge and served on the board of the Cantabria Shores HOA in AZ.  She's also been involved in a number of civic organizations such as the Tri-Town Exchange Club and the Westborough Historical Society.

Northborough Patch: Have you held other offices in town?
LM: Although I have not held other offices in Northborough, I was on the Finance Committee and the Waste Water Treatment Plan Ad Hoc Committees in Westborough.

NP: What inspired you to run?
LM: It was not as much of an inspiration as is was an exasperation. I have made numerous presentations before the Board of Selectmen, the Zoning Board of Appeals and at one Town Meeting representing the taxpayers. I hope that my run for selectman inspires many residents to get out and vote, to get more involved in town government and to give the boards their direction at Town Meeting.  

NP: Something you're most proud of having done in your political career?
LM: Although I am proud of many of my diverse accomplishments, speaking up and successfully being heard in local political circles, I hope that once I am elected to the Board of Selectmen that my leadership will inspire more citizens to get involved.

NP: Why should people vote for you?
LM: I care about the town and the people in it. I have a proven track record.  I am a great believer in term limits and offer an alternative to the business-as-usual town policies. Both businessmen and residents alike deserve to be treated with the respect of a stockholder, and from my first hand experience, that doesn't happen here too often. 

NP: What do you love about Northborough? 
LM: When I first moved here, I was attracted to the quaint, small New England town, where I fell in love with a lovely historic antique house. Since I have lived here, I have seen how the people work together to protect and preserve their rural community.  I like that.

NP: Describe yourself politically.
LM: There is no room for labeling or national politics in town government.  As a selectman, I would be there to represent everyone equally.
