Whiz Kids’ Key to Awesomeness: After roughly 2,340 days of school, which all started around the age of five or six in Kindergarten, Class of 2011 have come a long way and have earned the right to celebrate their achievements.
Their education started with learning ABCs, shapes, numbers and colors. The years have flown by as their learning included writing essays, learning a foreign language, geometry, calculus, conducting science experiments, finding a niche in a sport or finding a musical or dramatic talent.

Among many things, these students have attended their first proms, worked their first jobs, had their first dates, received their driver’s licenses, and have followed their hearts to support worthwhile causes and have become a contributing member of the Northborough community.
When this graduating class was born about 18 years ago, gas averaged $1.16 per gallon and a movie ticket sold for about $4.14. This was also the year that Windows NT 3.1 was released by Microsoft, Jurassic Park and Mrs. Doubtfire ruled the box office, and Madonna, UB40 and Phil Collins were in the Top 40.
Technology has come a long way since these students were born. We now have web cams and iPhones. There is so much text messaging being used to communicate that there are kids who are developing .
Reality television shows are ruling prime time among this age group, such as American Idol.
Over the years, these kids have grown up, have found their strengths, and have overcome personal obstacles.
On June 5 at 2 pm, Algonquin Regional High School will celebrate the 347 students of the Class of 2011 during its graduation ceremony. The class is led by Valedictorian Alexander Silver and Salutatorian Annie Yao.
Tom Alera, English teacher and director of the Fall Musical and Spring Play, will be the class speaker.
Algonquin’s Principal, Thomas Mead, said that “about 85 percent of our students go to a four year college, about 8 percent go to a two year college, and the rest, about seven percent, go to work, the military, or a technical school.”
These students are ready to embark on life and they are all wished the best of luck in their future endeavors.
