Thought and Poem – December 26, 2014
From time to time, we look back on our lives and wonder why we did or said some of the silly things we did over the years. We wonder why we wore some of the clothes we did and how we dared to leave our homes with some of the hairstyles we wore. We even wonder how we came to like some of the foods we eat today.
Yet, after all the “wondering,” we have done over the years, we still have not been able to find the perfect day, where we said and did everything right. There has not been a day that we felt 100% satisfied with the clothing that we put on our bodies and how our hair looked. And there hasn’t been that perfect day where we ate what we thought to be the perfect meal.

Now mind you, from the day we were born, we start to learn about life as we begin living it. And for a short while, we have to say, do, eat and wear what our parents decide is best for us. After a little more time, we allow our peers in the classrooms or schoolyards to dictate what we say, do, eat and wear. Even more time will pass and we move out on our own and then we know we CAN do, say, eat and wear whatever we want to, because we are in control of our lives and…well…we will now make our own choices.
Like many of us, by the time we graduate into the upper years by decades, we look back and shake our heads as we do not know why we did, said, wore or ate some of the things we did? I know I have and it is hard to believe that I have a brain, that has been trained, educated, and been around in life and I still can’t seem to find how to live life in a way that what I say or do doesn’t upset someone, or upset me. I can’t seem to understand why I wore some the most ridiculous clothing that I wore just to prove to others that I COULD wear what I wore. (When we look back on these thoughts, we don’t remember the times we looked nice…but the times we wore things that pushed the buttons of our parents, teachers and peers.) And, with all the information available to us over the years because of medical advances, why is it that we still do not eat healthy as we should so that we can have that perfect day where we have no sicknesses or pain? I got nothing! Hello brain??? Are you in there?

Do You Remember Back in The Days?
Do you remember back in the days, when we were kids?
How we used to play with Barbie and Ken dolls and think that life was all about kisses and about having kids?
I go back in my mind from time to time to see where my thinking went wrong or to figure out what I had missed?
Hello? I can tell you from experience, real life is nothing like this!
And, how about when we were in school, we were always told what to do?
And we couldn’t wait to graduate so that we wouldn’t have to follow any rules?
Well, looking at all the rules I have had to follow since way back,
I can see that I never gained the true meaning about this “needing to follow the rules for the rest of your life” fact.
When the “Beatle” cards came out in the early nineteen-sixties, oh, how you thought you would never succeed in life,
Or how you wouldn’t fit in, unless you diligently collected every “Beatle” card in sight?
And if you didn’t wear the “Benjamin Franklin” glasses that John Lennon wore, oh my,
Add to this not having worn the purple and white lipstick the movies stars were wearing at this time, well, you were never going to make it through Junior High.
And, how about our concept of what “love” was meant to be?
Such as how we saw it in the movies or on TV?
They show the people having their little “spats” but because their “love” would guide them,
In just thirty minutes their problems were solved and they were lovable friends again?
It is funny how we were fancy fooled about how “real” life should be.
We were distracted by all the trends and the “world of make believe” as shown on TV or the movies,
That we honestly thought that this is how our life in the future would turn out as the plots depicted,
All hunky dory and lovey dovey, well…..you could have fooled me… (Uh…you did).
