UPDATE: One Charged With Attempted Murder, the Other Assault, After Fight

A Gardner man faces multiple charges after an assault that occurred in Northborough last week.

A Gardner man is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly stabbing someone in the chest at a home in Northborough on Friday night, according to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Donald F. William, 56, of 240 Pearl St., Gardner, was held on $5,000 cash bail or $50,000 surety after his arraignment in Westboro District Court Monday, said the Telegram.

The Telegram incorrectly reports that William stabbed one man and beat another with a baseball bat. The assault only involved two men, with William being charged with the stabbing.

William faces attempted murder charges, and the stabbing victim, John Cortez, was also charged. On Wednesday, Dec. 19, Cortez, 58, of 73 Central Street, Hudson, was also arrested. Cortez was recently discharged from UMass. Police applied for the arrest warrant on Monday, and it was issued on Tuesday, with Cortez brought to court for arraignment on Wednesday.

when a man called to report he had been struck by a baseball bat. When police arrived to resond to the caller, they also received a call from Berlin police that reported a man had sought help after being stabbed in Northborough.
