A generation is almost gone...

Thought and Poem

Thought and Poem

Death is not something we think about on a daily basis. Often the subject comes up when someone we know passes on.

As we age it is inevitable that the generation before us is aging too and it would be safe to say that eventually all members of that generation would dwindle in numbers until there is none left. When members of that generation get down to the last man standing we start thinking about how we would follow closely behind them.

It is hoped though, that as each generation lives, that they will share what they have learned with the younger generation. Skills learned or achievements that can benefit others will ensure that the memories of our presence are not forgotten. All wish to leave behind a heritage for the next generation with hopes that they can learn from our mistakes and improve the quality of life for the good of all mankind.

With the passing of my aunt this week, it hits home because of that generation before me, there is actually one man standing. I took a few moments to think about what this generation taught me and it opened my eyes knowing that most of what I do today was because of something each handed down to my generation. Memories shared will ensure that none will ever forget.

A generation is almost gone…

She is the last “man” standing…

A generation has gone; she is the only one remaining.

All the others have departed and have left her behind…

But she has more life to live so in a way she doesn’t mind.

The years have flown by quickly…

Yes indeed…

She too has aged greatly and hardly knows where time had gone…

But knows for her to join the others not much time is left; it won’t be long.

It is unbelievable how fast a generation can come and go…

But one can hope…

The memories made during this time by those who once had lived…

For those left behind…they will see these treasures as healing gifts.

Each will have left their mark of what they have done…

Having passed down their skills to the new generations that will come…

And it will be hoped that the memories will never fade…

During the years that will continue to go by… until all are together again.
