Thought and Poem – January 5, 2015
Oh dear! What a night I am having. Restlessness had me tossing and turning for over two hours now and before I went absolutely insane, (I truly believe on some days that I am already halfway there), decided to get up. There was no point in fighting it any longer as sleep was NOT coming anytime soon. I might as well make myself useful. I had something to eat (a given) and then decided to write…again.
I don’t know about you, but when I have nights such as this one, it makes getting up in the morning very hard for me. The alarm goes off and I don’t know how many times I hit the “snooze” button before the alarm gives up trying to wake me up. I will say this though; my neighbors are NEVER late for work.

I throw the covers off my body, thinking the cool morning air will snap “drowsy” out of me, but NADA…this doesn’t work either. I just curl up in a ball and let the remaining body heat warm me as I continue to snooze. Every now and then, I will open my eyes and glance over at the alarm clock to see how much more time I have to linger in my bed before I have to really get up and face my day. After about the second time, I decide this is it…I have to get up NOW. And, as I glance at the alarm clock again, I notice that I need to leave the house in twenty minutes and I realize I must have fallen back to sleep for a half hour! As I jump out of bed, I make a mental note that I need to get a new alarm clock, one that works!
Even after I have washed up, brushed my teeth and dressed, I can’t seem to snap out of my morning fog and my body is begging me to go back to bed! ENOUGH I tell myself! It is time to get reinforcement and I race to the kitchen to make myself a strong cup of coffee. CAFFINATED if you please!

Now because I am still in a sleep mode, I must have accidently put a teaspoon or two more of the coffee than I should have and after I added the half-and-half and sugar and I took my first sip, HAIR wanted to grow on my chest! Oh dear! With tears in my eyes, and my heart now racing because of the overdose I just swallowed of extra caffeine, I am now awake and ready to start my day! Another success story! Of course now that I don’t have time to sleep, the body restlessness I had during the night seems to have moved on for the moment.

Good Morning
Night time gave way to the morning dawn,
And the sun has risen, and on me it has cast its rays upon,
But it isn’t the sun that is going to keep me awake,
No, it is the extra-caffeinated coffee that I am going to make.
A nice strong brew like the kind that will put hair on my chest,
Along with some half-and-half and sugar that will help me to continue on this day’s quest.
And I had better bring along a coffee thermos filled to the brim,
In case I need a “fix” to calm myself through whatever mess I find myself in.
If you are a coffee drinker, than you know what I mean,
Coffee, sugar and half-and-half make a good team.
A much needed team that will help me to stay awake and get through the day MY WAY,
Until the sun goes down at dusk giving way to the night and I find myself back in bed…ah….I made it through another day.
