Thought and Poem – December 4, 2014
Lately, after I have finished my “chores” of course, I have spent some time at the Wilbraham Library. I go to this library, mostly because it is not too, too far from my home, but far enough so that I can eat a small ice cream cone on the way and have it all in my tummy before I get to my destination, and because the atmosphere is peaceful, quiet and serene.
I sat at a different table today and once I was settled and my iPad was plugged in to the table socket, I happened to turn my head just right when looking out the huge window to my side; I saw the most beautiful woodpecker. I have seen some over the years in the trees in front of my home, but this one was pecking on something in the bird feeder just a few feet away from me.

He paid no heed to the flashing and clicking of my iPhone, he just continued about his own business. He kind of reminded me of the cartoons of long ago about “Woody the Woodpecker.” Only there was nothing animated about this bird…he was real…and right before my eyes.
There were some other little birds nearby on the ground and none of them tried to hog all the food. Each knew there was a certain arrangement that comes with eating at bird feeders. The LITTLE birds eat what falls to the ground when the BIG birds drop food from above; plain and simple. Then another bird caught my eye that appeared on a limb close by…a bright and even bigger bird…a Red Cardinal. Again, I had never seen this kind of bird so close before and I was tickled for a chance to get a good view of him from my “front row” seat. Unfortunately, I did not get a good picture of him.

As we age, we often think, we know it all, seen it all, or have done it all. But, I am always amazed at what it still out in the world around me to experience or see that I have not yet had an opportunity to do so. Today was one of those days. I wonder if these birds have “library cards?
What about you? Do you get all excited at the little things that come your way in the day unexpectedly as my experience today? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst
It is the little things
It is the little things
That can make our everyday exciting.
There is no need to pay for what comes your way,
You just have to be on the look-out for new opportunities each day,
To see what you have never seen before
When you venture outside as you leave your front door.
Not everything that brings us joy needs to be bought with cash,
And it doesn’t take money to make good memories…the kind that last.
Things that enter you mind that will stay with you for a very long time
And you feel that even if it is raining…you will “see” the sunshine!
