Northborough's Dave Teggart Signs Deal With the Bears

After a rookie minicamp, the Chicago Bears offered kicker Dave Teggart a contract.

Northborough kicker Dave Teggart, who played football at signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Bears after a final session at a rookie minicamp on Tuesday, according to ESPN.

ESPN reported that Teggart joined six other free agents in signing with the Bears, and that the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"He is an outstanding young man," Fran Whitten, Algonquin's athletic director, told Northborough Patch.  "He was a great football and baseball player here at Algonquin, and had a tremendous work ethic. We are proud of him and wish him the best of luck."

"To be honest with you, I was caught off-guard when he called my name in the hallway and said 'Hi' to me -- like, wow," Teggart told ESPN. "You see these guys on TV all the time, and it’s a real honor to be coached by him and now to have the opportunity to be coached by him. I think I'm in a good place right now, and I'm going to learn as much as I can going forward, earn my spot and keep kicking."

Teggart continued playing football at UConn after graduating from Algonquin Regional High School.
