Property Target of Third Larceny: Thieves Try to Fill Truck with Metal
A fire captain alerted the property owner that three men were in the process of stealing materials.

Three men are facing larceny charges after they attempted to steal scrap metal and load it into a U-haul from a Northborough property at 130 Main St.
Police responded to a call on Thursday, shortly after 1 p.m., when David Hunt, who owns the property on Main Street, told them that Northborough Fire Captain Daniel Brillhart noticed three men with a U-haul parked there.
Vijay Gainedy, 21, 4 Ferdinand St., Daniel LaPointe, 18, and Sean Moodie, 28, all of Worcester, were charged with larceny under $250.

Hunt's property has been a target of two other recent similar larcenies.
When police got there, the rear door of the U-haul was open and filled with scrap metal, and one of the suspects (later identified as LaPointe) was holding a pipe. When Hunt arrived, he confirmed that the property in the truck was his, and it included two large sheets of iron and a large sheet of metal. Other items were stacked on the lawn, presumably ready to be loaded onto the truck, said police.

Since Hunt's property had been a previous target, he set up surveillance cameras, which captured the three in the act.
"Gainedy claimed that the truck overheated and they decided to park in the driveway," reads the police incident report. "He claimed he wanted to look at the property because he saw that there was a real estate sign out front."
During the booking, police found on LaPointe a small, empty Ziplock baggie with "8-ball" graphics on it (commonly used to transport illegal drugs), and searched further, finding two hallucinogenics. LaPointe also had a marijuana grinder with residue in his possession, said police.
Gainedy and Moodie were charged with larceny under $250. LaPointe was charged with larceny under $250 and possession of a class C substance.
