Smooth Start to the New School Year
Despite the troubles caused by Hurricane Irene, and the power it shut off, school started as planned on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Northborough.
"We have had a very smooth opening at Algonquin and at the five K-8 schools, " said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Charles Gobron.
Many parents are saying the same.
Kids waited at bus stops in their new clothes this morning to head to new classrooms, encounter new teachers and possibly make new friends.

"The Zeh School had a great first day," said Principal Susan Whitten of the . "We had a few items that did not get addressed due to Monday’s cancellation of our district Teacher Day. However, the Zeh staff stepped up to the plate and took care of just about everything in a professional way."
The Zeh School's biggest change thus far, said Whitten, was moving recess before lunch this year, "which will take some time to work out all of the details."
The Zeh students, she said, "arrived cheerfully" and took part in the traditional gathering before the flagpole to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance," and sing "The Star Spangled Banner" led by Mrs. Tower, as well as review the school's constitution with Mrs. Zia.
"We also welcomed our incoming Kindergarten class through an orientation for students and parents," said Whitten, which included a first bus ride with the principal. All in all, it was a great day! Happy New Year to everyone."
Scott Bazydlo, principal of the agrees that it was a "fabulous first day." The buses were on time, children smiled and he commended the teachers on an outstanding job.
"In the few areas of our district still affected by limbs and power lines," said Bazydlo, "parents were extremely supportive and assisted in getting their children safely to the bus. It’s been a real team effort between town officials, school personnel and Peaslee families. I couldn’t be more proud of our community today."
