Thought and Poem – December 18, 2014
Let’s face it, for most of us from the moment we entered the world we are surrounded by stress…and on a DAILY basis. Over the generations, people have dealt with stress in different ways. Living among this stress made finding ways to RELAX was very important so that you could endure on top of any of the other added changes we face in life and the problems we accumulated during these changes.
During the 1930, 1940 and 1950’s you might have seen the adults go for long Sunday afternoon drives, go on a picnics or they sat on their porches drinking fresh squeezed lemonade while they rocked in their chairs. The children after they did their chores spent their relaxing times playing with paper-dolls and reading comic books.
During the 1960, 1970 and 1980’s, ALL the adults in the family got employment…FULLTIME… where they could relax in the quiet atmosphere of their places. On weekends, they watched baseball or football on the television set while drinking a cold beer and eating Hoagies. Children on the other hand spent their relaxing time outdoors and actually got involved physically playing these same games. And instead of beer, we had “Kool-Aid Taste Great Stuff,” and had either some “It Doesn’t Melt in Your Hands - M & M’s” candies or had the real “Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies.” (I am in this age-group!)
Moving up to the 1990 – and to the present, the adults relax by lingering in their beds watching television or movies and eating whatever they purchased from any Fast Food Restaurants, and then took naps. It is silly to note that the children of this age group never have to leave their bedrooms either. They were born with electronics attached to their fingers or ears and they find communicating via these gadgets or playing games with them easy ways to relax right from their very own “dens.” No physical exertion is necessary. And these same children feasted on Star-Bursts, and just about anything that was chemically put together and devoid of any nutritional benefits.
Unfortunately, all of these generations reaped the results of what they did during their relaxing leisure times. As we look around us we find a bunch of neurotic, caffeine, sugar laced, chemically manufactured walking zombies! Tell me why we spend so much money in space to see if there are “Aliens” among us? Look no further as the different ways we found to relax over the years have created Alien-like-beings right before our very eyes and we didn’t even have to leave home to find them!
What about you? Have you seen the ways you found to relax changing

Stress?
What is life without moments of insanity and profound stress?
How else would our lives get in such a mess?
Which way to turn to come out fresh is just about anyone’s guess?
But be who you are and do what you can to keep trying your best
Well its crazy… sometimes it might feel like it is this way
When life gets hectic in its own roundabout way
But there are some out there that will have something about this to say
But these probably live in a fantasy world or stay in bed the bulk of the day.
Real people will agree
To live each day is sometimes not easy.
Some will think that it is not worth trying
Others feel the burden and weigh their shoulders down crying.
Then there is the type that seem to kick butt
No matter what life throws at them they keep putting up.
These tend to imagine their life is like a straight hair only they can get to curl
They block out all the negatives and try to shelter themselves from the real world.
In my case I tend to go with the flow
I don’t have a PhD so what would I know.
I have a lifetime of ups and downs
And I have plenty of stories to tell that are real mind blowers, hands down.
But what matters is how you see the day
And how you face the stresses that come your way
If no solutions can be found just do the best you can
Before long you will see the problem is not so bad and you are determined to face your stresses giving your situation another chance.
