Thought and Poem

Depression is Real

Thought and Poem – August 20, 2014

Every now and then, visitors may come to our homes with their luggage and they don’t want to leave. They come in after they wipe their feet of course, and then they make themselves comfortable hoping never to leave. You know what kind of company I mean right?

Well I am talking about depression, loneliness, sadness, grief and anything that sticks around to keep us feeling low; not caring about ourselves or our needs. These moods can come and go and do from time to time because of certain things we might face in our life. But if this or these “visitors” hang around for too long, we might tend to all them to control our lives.

We may never be able to rid the world of all reasons for depression right now, but we can get help we may need to find ways to cope with our lives so that we can be confident that we can move forward.

When going to school this year, if going to work, or even if you stay at home, please, look around at the people in your midst and if someone stands out as depressed let them know you care and will listen if they want to talk. If it is more than just a “bad day,” encourage them to seek the assistance of those who can help them. It might be their parents, a counselor in school, or even the family doctor. But whatever you do, do not close the door to someone in need of help. Let’s not let “unwanted” company loiter around our houses, schools or workplaces. As a team working together, let’s look out for one another.

What about you? If you have been depressed, what has helped you to overcome your mood so that you could move forward? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst

Depression is Real

Depression for many is a way of life.

Zaps people of their strengths and might.

Some keep trying to overcome and refuse to stay down,

Others want to give up and block out light and never allow the joys of life to come around.

You don’t have to be a drug addict.

You don’t have to be an alcoholic.

You don’t have to be rich and you don’t have to be poor.

Depression can show up at anyone’s door.

Sometimes it just comes to visit.

Other times it comes with baggage.

But either way it must be dealt with.

Depression is not something to push aside; to dismiss.

If you need help, let someone lend a helping hand.

Life is precious and we can’t let depression demand,

That we don’t see the value in what we all have to offer,

Seek the help you may need so that you don’t have to continue to suffer.

Be good to yourself and come up off the ground,

We want you to stay with us…to stick around.

If depression should come knocking at your door and it just might,

Don’t let it come inside; get the help you need to tell it to take a hike!
