Thought and Poem

I'll Be Okay!

Thought and Poem – August 21, 2014

It can be hard at times to stay focused on our priorities in life. We may make a list of tasks we want to complete each day, but distractions can mean that nothing on this list will get done. In just seconds, life changing situations can arise and take your steps in another direction and most often, it may not be to a “place” you want to go.

For instance, the other day I had only three extra chores on my list that I had planned to do for the day. These of course were outside of my usual daily chores that I do every day that I don’t put down on the list. I wanted to glean my garden, write my next post for my blog and make some soup with vegetables from my garden. Not happening!

The cell phone rang…I did not answer it, the second cell phone rang…I did not answer this either, but when the house phone rang I answered and the rest is history. The caller had a problem with a bill and asked me for help. Like I had answers? Okay, I listened to her problem and then while talking with her on the house phone; I called the people demanding money on my cell phone. Three hours later I said good-bye to the bill collector, and my friend and I went into the kitchen to find something to eat.

Stress makes me want to find something to munch on FAST! I found my emergency box of Twinkies and then I went and sat in my rocking chair and replayed in my mind the conversation I had with this friend and the fifteen other people connected to the company where the bill had to be paid. It was unbelievable. Wouldn’t you know it, after having something to eat and relaxing in my comfy chair, I fell asleep.

When I opened my eyes, I noticed how dark it was in my living room and wondered what happened to the rest of the daytime hours? I put the light on and remembered the phone conversation, the delicious Twinkies, the soft comfy chair and it all added up. Too late to do those extra chores I wanted to do today, but it was not too late to grab another Twinkie, the remote control to the TV and watch a few shows before bedtime. Before tomorrow comes, I must remember to shut off all my phones!

I’ll Be Okay!

I took a phone call today,

To help a friend who had a bill to pay.

Four phone calls later just to get to the right person to speak with,

I found myself losing it and I was practically out of my wits.

Oh my, forty-five minutes later we still did not have the information we needed,

And the “bill still needed to be paid,” my friend repeated.

Okay? My friend I understand this? Hello?

Just send a check and mail it when you get off the phone.

I tell her, “If you don’t owe it, they will send it back,”

And then when it comes back you can have your panic attack.

Because you are back to where you started from,

As the bill is still in arrears, and the “paying the bill” battle we have not won!

After the phone calls I went and sat in my chair,

And I sat there twirling my hair.

I felt as if the world had jumped on my shoulders and I was finding it hard to breathe,

But, I will be okay in just a moment, after I have a sip of my coffee and eat some Twinkies!
