I Don't Wanna....

Thought and Poem – September 10, 2014

I am not much of a procrastinator, because I like to get things done…yesterday. But I did have a job that I dislike having to tackle and I have been putting this job off for a very long time. Long enough for me to forget where I put things because there were too many piles. I normally have a pile or two here and there but the room was looking as if there were piles growing on top of piles and I was running out of spaces to start new ones. This was it; I could not put off cleaning any longer.

So, went to the kitchen to get emergency supplies…a bottle of water and my box of “Twinkies.” I also grabbed some cleaning sprays, paper towers, the vacuum, and a rather heavy duty trash bag while I was at it. I left my cell phone downstairs and unplugged the house phone on my way up the stairs.

My first thought was to just dump the piles into the trash bag and stuff it in the closet. But since I had the closet to clean tomorrow, this wasn’t going to work. Too much thinking was going on…needed a break…a bite of the “Twinkie” and a sip of water.

Okay, with my brain unclogged, I stood by the door of the room and calculated what had to be done, what could be done first and how long it would take to accomplish each…too long! I let out a rather large sigh and grab another bite of the “Twinkie.”

After the first section was done, I was rather please with how things were looking and I could feel my “positive” vibes stirring me on to keep motivated. It wasn’t too bad. While cleaning I thought I should retrain myself as to how I could keep the area more organized so that when I did clean again it would not take the whole day to do it like it did today.

Three trips to the bathroom, one to the store, one to the refrigerator, one to the mailbox, once to the trash can outside and one very short phone call later…I had the room done…except for the closet. I will do the closet tomorrow…I was out of “TWINKIES!”

I Don’t Wanna?

“I don’t wanna,” have you ever said these words before?

Whether you have been asked to say something or you have been asked to do a certain chore?

But mainly when these words are said,

We tend to remember the “expressions” that go with these words instead.

For example, take a little child.

“I don’t wanna,” they may exclaim, as they flash their cute smiles,

And you are apt, because you are captured by the moment, to let it slide by at this time,

But you know they will do what you ask of them as they always do at some point down the line.

Or when a teacher ask your child to go to the front of the class,

And recite something or answer a question they have been asked,

In their mind they declare, “They don’t wanna,” but it is mainly the faces they make as they make their way to the front that we will remember rather than what they my verbally express,

And as they bravely turn and face the class, they do their assignment and give it their best.

Pretty much in this life we will often be asked to do things we “don’t wanna do,” and even though most will try,

We are more apt to roll our eyes, turn up our noses, or flash our sweet smiles doing everything so that we might not have to comply.

Mostly we hope our antics will be enough to smooth our way out of what we have been asked to do,

And often our doing what has been requested has been forgotten because of the facial expressions we choose.
