What? The Internet is Down?

Thought and Poem – October 25, 2014

With the fall season the weather changes drastically. The air is colder, it rains a little more and it can be windy. With the winter season just around the corner from us more rain will come, more wind, freezing temperatures and SNOW. So what about this don’t we already know?

Well, it is the middle of the night and I was sitting at my computer thinking (I do this from time to time) I was counting the blessings we, mainly I, get from having the “Internet” to go on in the nighttime that keeps me quiet so that I do not wake anyone else in the house and it gives me something to do when I can’t sleep.

As a writer, the internet is important to me as I do most of my writing on my computer and sometimes on my iPhone. And I began thinking about the inconvenient times the weather mentioned above has caused the electricity in my home, and on my street and in my town, to go out. No power to juice up the computer or any electronics for that matter….but the problems is that when it goes out on the nights I cannot sleep…how will I remember all the little poems or thoughts that pop in my head as I lay in my bed that I want to write about?

When the computer is down, I can’t write down my thoughts. If I trick my mind into thinking I will remember my thoughts in the morning, I have fooled myself again so Just thinking about this possibility makes me want to panic. But the truth of the matter is…the fall winds, rains and colder temps can cause the power to go off. And even worse than this, is the fact that the winter can bring increase the chances that we will have more power outages than the fall. What will I do?

What? The Internet is Down?

What do you do when the internet is down?
I mean besides, getting upset and moping around.

How bad can it be to work around the wireless malfunction?
There is always pen and paper, go ahead…use them if you remember how they function.

Don’t worry; these ancient tools will not bite you,
And they will not harm you no matter how long they are being used.

It may take a while though as they will only work at your speed,
But they could work to get the job done should there be a need.

It is always good practice to keep a few on hand
As wireless access may not be an option now and then.

Also make sure you have some paper around,
So that you can write all the things you need to jot down.

Just think when you get older in the years to come,
You can tell stories to your grandchildren about the olden days when you were young.

When you had to battle the malfunctioning internet dragon with some paper and a “Bic” pen in hand
Though, they might look at you as if you were crazy, as the words “pen and paper” they will not understand.
