Weather Alert: Northborough

The storms could bring gusty winds, hail and cloud to ground lightning.

Update: The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Central Massachusetts, lasting until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The storm is capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

Original Post: That National Weather Service reminds us of this: if you’re close enough to hear thunder, you’re close enough to get hit by lightning. Also, if you’ve got outdoor plans, you may want to reschedule, and keep an eye on the latest weather report.

In a special weather statement, the NWS warns that a few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in Middlesex and Worcester counties between 3-9 p.m.

“The main potential for this activity is to the northwest of Boston to the Providence line,” said the report. “The main risk with any strong to severe thunderstorm will be isolated, damaging wind gusts and hail to the size of quarters. Dangers cloud to ground lightning and locally heavy rainfall may result in brief nuisance, poor drainage street flooding.
